About the Nunavut Class 7 learner's licence test

In Nunavut you can get a Class 7 learner's licence from age 15. To get it, you pass a written knowledge test in two parts, rules of the road and safe driving, and sign identification, and you meet the vision standard. The practice tests on this page follow the same two parts, and every answer comes with a short explanation from the Nunavut Driver's Manual.

Frequently asked questions

What is on the Nunavut learner's licence test?

A written knowledge test in two parts, based on the Nunavut Driver's Manual: rules of the road and safe driving practices, and sign identification. You also need to meet the vision standard. If you fail one part, you rewrite only that part.

What score do I need to pass?

Nunavut doesn't publish the number of questions or the pass mark online. Two parts of 20 questions, with 16 correct needed on each, is the widely reported format, so our practice tests use it.

How old do I have to be to get a learner's licence in Nunavut?

15. You also need suitable identification, such as a birth certificate, health care card or passport. You must be 16 to get a Class 5 or 6 licence.

Can I take the test in another language?

If you can't read and understand the written test, the examiner may give you an oral test. If you can't speak the language, an interpreter may be used at the driver examiner's discretion.

How soon can I take my road test?

The 2021 Nunavut manual says a first-time driver must practise with a learner's licence for at least four weeks before the road test. If you fail the Class 5 or 6 road test, you must practise for two more weeks.

Which manual should I study?

The Nunavut Driver's Manual, for a licence that's valid outside Nunavut. There is also an easy-read manual for licences restricted to Nunavut or to 100 km of your home community. The practice bank uses both, and leaves out the few points where they disagree.

Are these the real Nunavut test questions?

No. Every question here is original, written from the Nunavut Driver's Manual. This site is not affiliated with the Government of Nunavut or its Motor Vehicles Division.

How many practice questions are there?

438: 303 rules of the road questions and 135 road sign questions. Practice tests don't repeat a question until you have seen every question in that part.
