MPI Step-by-step guide

How to get your Manitoba Class 5 learner's licence (5L)

Who can apply, what to bring, what it costs, what happens if you don't pass, and the rules once you have it. Then practise for the test.

Step by step

  1. Study MPI's Driver's Handbook.
  2. Register as a Manitoba Public Insurance customer and have your ID checked before you book. The easiest way is through an Autopac agent.
  3. If you have a medical condition that could affect your driving, tell MPI's Driver Fitness office before the test (204-985-1900 or 1-866-617-6676).
  4. Book the knowledge test. Say which language you want and whether you'd like the audio. If you're under 18, a parent or legal guardian must give consent.
  5. Take the test on a computer: 30 minutes, not open book, no phones.
  6. Meet the vision and medical standards and buy your licence.
