SGI Step-by-step guide

How to get your Saskatchewan motorcycle licence

Who can apply, what to bring, what it costs, what happens if you don't pass, and the rules once you have it. Then practise for the test.

Step by step

  1. Hold a Class 5 (or higher) driver's licence and be at least 16. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian signs the motorcycle approval form.
  2. Study the Saskatchewan Motorcycle Driver's Handbook and the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook, then pass the basic knowledge, signs and motorcycle knowledge exams (80% each, $25 per attempt) and a vision test.
  3. Take an SGI-approved motorcycle training course (strongly recommended) or pass the basic ability road test ($55, on your own motorcycle, up to three tries).
  4. Validate your 6 Endorsement at a motor licence issuer ($15), and pay the $500 MGDL fee unless you have proof of approved training. You're now a learner rider.
  5. After at least 12 months as a learner, pass the M Endorsement road test ($55) to reach Novice1. Then stay incident-free for 12 months in Novice1 and 12 months in Novice2 to graduate.
