About the Saskatchewan motorcycle learner tests

To ride a motorcycle as a learner in Saskatchewan you need a 6 Endorsement on your Class 5 (or higher) licence. SGI tests you with three knowledge exams, each needing 80%: a basic knowledge exam and a signs exam from the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook, and a motorcycle knowledge exam from the Saskatchewan Motorcycle Driver's Handbook. The practice tests on this page cover the motorcycle knowledge and signs exams, with every answer explained. For the basic knowledge exam, use the rules test on our main Saskatchewan page.

Sample questions

A few questions from the practice bank. Tap one to see the answer.

When may a learner (6 Endorsement) rider not ride?

From half an hour before sunset to half an hour after sunrise

Most fatal crashes happen after dark or in low light.

About how much of your stopping power does the front brake provide?

About three-quarters

Use both brakes to stop effectively.

To turn right, you press forward on:

The right hand grip

This is countersteering: press right to go right, press left to go left.

In the curb lane or next to a parking lane, where is your blocking position?

Slightly to the left of the centre of the lane

This also protects you if a driver opens the door of a parked car.

What following distance do good riders keep from the vehicle ahead in ideal conditions?

At least three seconds

Allow even more in poor conditions.

At what angle should you cross railway tracks?

Between 45 and 90 degrees

This keeps the wheels from getting caught in the tracks. Check for trains first.

Is lane splitting allowed in Saskatchewan?

No; it's dangerous and against the law

Stay in the lane and move at the speed of other traffic.

How to study

  1. Read SGI's Saskatchewan Motorcycle Driver's Handbook and the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook (rules of the road and signs).
  2. Take a motorcycle knowledge practice test and a signs test. Each one is a fresh set of questions you haven't seen yet.
  3. Practise the basic knowledge exam with the rules test on our main Saskatchewan page.
  4. Review the questions you missed, then use Smart practice to drill your weak topics. When you pass every part several times in a row, you're ready.

Frequently asked questions

Which tests do I take for a Saskatchewan motorcycle learner's licence?

A basic knowledge exam and a signs exam, both from the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook, a motorcycle knowledge exam from the Motorcycle Driver's Handbook, and a vision test. Then you take SGI-approved motorcycle training or a basic ability road test before you can ride as a learner.

What score do I need to pass?

80% on each of the basic, signs and motorcycle knowledge exams. Each attempt costs $25, and if you fail you can try again as early as the next day.

How many questions are on the SGI motorcycle knowledge exam?

SGI doesn't publish the number. Our motorcycle knowledge practice tests have 20 questions with 16 correct to pass (80%), and the signs practice tests have 30 with 24 to pass, the same as for a car learner.

Who can get a 6 Endorsement?

Anyone 16 or older who already holds a Class 5 or higher driver's licence. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the approval form. Every first-time rider goes through the MGDL program, whatever their age.

What are the rules for a motorcycle learner in Saskatchewan?

No riding from half an hour before sunset to half an hour after sunrise, no passengers, no towing, zero alcohol and drugs, a red L placard on the licence plate, and full protective gear: arms and legs covered, finger-covering gloves, ankle-covering boots and an approved three-quarter, modular or full-face helmet.

Where do I practise the basic knowledge exam?

On our main Saskatchewan page. The basic knowledge exam covers the rules of the road from the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook, the same as for a car learner's licence.

Are these the real SGI test questions?

No. Every question here is original, written from SGI's Saskatchewan Motorcycle Driver's Handbook and Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook. This site is not affiliated with SGI.

How many practice questions are there?

499: 316 motorcycle knowledge questions and 183 road sign questions. Practice tests don't repeat a question until you have seen every question in that part.
